Confirm the service times and ferry operation by telephone before travelling.
Getting there
By car: travel from Astrakhan toward Volodarsky District and the village of Bolshoy Mogoy. Cross by ferry, then follow the route toward Churkin settlement. The monastery is approximately six kilometres across the steppe from the crossing.
By public transport: travel from Astrakhan to Bolshoy Mogoy, then use the ferry and pre-arranged onward transport. Bus and ferry schedules can change.
Visitor guidance
Clothing
- Women are asked to wear a head covering, a skirt below the knee and covered shoulders.
- Men are asked to wear long trousers and modest clothing.
- Very revealing, transparent or inappropriate clothing is unsuitable inside the church.
Conduct
- Maintain quiet and reverence.
- Place telephones on silent.
- Smoking and alcohol are prohibited.
- Private areas may be entered only with permission of the brotherhood.
Photography
- Ask the brotherhood before taking photographs on the grounds.
- Photography is not permitted inside the church during services.
- Please treat the monastery’s property and natural environment with care.
Organised pilgrimages
Parishes, pilgrimage services and organised groups should provide the proposed date, arrival time and number of participants in advance. Please mention children, older visitors or anyone with particular access needs.
Names for commemoration of the living and departed may be submitted at the church shop, where visitors may also obtain candles, icons and church literature.
